Vegas - April 26-27, 2008 - INCOMPLETE

A weekend in review...

Having been enticed by an offer to stay at the new Palazzo Hotel in Las Vegas, we booked one Saturday night in April to try and get in some good food and some relaxation. We don't gamble, but a comfortable hotel room means that I can catch up on a good book, watch some DVDs, and take a long nap whenever I feel like it. I didn't get as much done as I would have liked, but we did have some good eats. I wasn't impressed by the Palazzo hotel rooms or the service, but it was acceptable for one night and for the price. The food was by far the best part of the weekend.

PALAZZO on the Strip
Located between the Wynn and adjacent to its sister hotel, the Venetian, the Palazzo was nice but felt overly crowded on this particular weekend. The doormen were all very attentive and friendly, but the Front Desk has some areas for improvement.
The first oddity is that there is no line at the front desk. It was well staffed with at least 6-8 persons but it was unclear where you should stand. Quickly enough, a guy with an earpiece and dressed in the hotel's grey suit/uniform quickly asked if we were checking in and had us wait for the first open desk. So, instead of velvet ropes, they had 2 guys in uniform directing traffic. While it was manageable with a small group, I had my doubts on how organized it would be when a sea of people arrived for check in. (Sunday morning was evidence of that. It looked like a small mob with people lining up randomly based on what seemed to be the shortest. Of course, I am never a fan of this method since that never works for the person who was there first.)

The walk to the elevator bays cut through the casino. It wasn't too long or winding so that was OK. What was annoying was a swarm of people seemed to be coming and going past from the casino floor and to and from the elevator bays. There was one guard asking those passing in to show their room key. But with no ropes (again) to guide an In vs. an Out side, there is no reason one big group passing through couldn't mask a single getting by without notice.

The room was nice, but in comparison to our previous suite at the Venetian it felt a tad smaller. The set up for the bathroom felt the same, but instead of a luxurious tub that cried for you to take a bath, this one felt average and had a rust spot already. Also, the majority of the rooms were connector rooms which was another mark against this hotel. We did have a nice view but didn't have much time to enjoy it.
