Proof that clowns are CREEPY.

Have you seen this clever USPS commercial?
(Proof that it's still possible to make clever ads - to which maybe people wouldn't skip through commercials.
Take a note, marketing execs.)

Open Letter to ESPN re: STIHL Timbersports

Latest STIHL Timbersports

- WHY would you cut the Final and the World Championship into a ReCap show, yet have devoted a whole episode to the previous heats, including stuff I never cared for, like the boomrun and the tree climb?
I tune in to see Wynyard, Bolstad, Dale Ryan, et al, go at it every year. I've been waiting for over 2 years to see Jason Wynyard regain the title one more time away from Bolstad - he FINALLY does it and you cut the episode down to nothingness - taking out all the drama! Keep this up, and I'll look for my STIHL TIMBERSPORTS elsewhere!

my ranting on: another non-funny person considered to be funny

So, Chelsea Handler is given a page in the latest EW to give her two cents about the current vampire craze.  I especially love when people try to reference something this is old school cool but proves they are referencing for the sake of it and have no idea WTF they are talking about.

Her point, she writes:  "I don't know if the craze will last, so I worry a little about the actors. Corey Haim and Corey Feldman got a lot of attention when they starred in that vampire movie The Lost Boys, and we all know how that turned out."

Um, I get it - she's trying to say the fad, as such, won't last and doesn't put young currently hot actors in a good place.  What bugs me?  She thinks she's being clever by referencing a classic (gawd, I feel old) flick like THE LOST BOYS.  But hey, lady, get this:
The two Coreys were NOT the vampires in the flick.
And the vamp in it - Kiefer Sutherland.  And his career?  "Jack Bauer" - 'nuff said.

I don't know this lady personally, so I don't get where my ire stems from.   Hmm... I doubt it has anything to do with the fact another talentless female has a sweet gig for schtupping her older successful male boss/now husband?  Indeed.

Don't you dare call Colbert a "jerk" you ungrateful jerk

Who the f*ck is trying to talk smack about my Stephen Colbert!

So, Colbert
raises the Nation to donate to support the US Speedskating team so they are able to go to the 2010 Winter Olympics
puts Canada "On Notice" for having some fishy policy of allowing the US team practice time on ice of the official stadium/oval only when the US team isn't available so he starts a letter writing campaign to Canada to help open up this injustice
70% of the proceeds for his Colbert Nation caps are going to the US Speedskating Team

And Shani Davis calls him a JERK?  WTF?!  O_O

OK, I've always said I can understand if people don't get the humor within The Colbert Report because, hell, Colbert and his writers offer some of the smartest, wittiest, funniest, coolest, meanest bits in entertainment; it's bound to fly over most people's heads.  And, usually, people are too lazy to try and understand the real message and intent behind the sound bytes that get thrown around the Internets and such.

So, does his ire stem from this old bit from TCR?

TOP GEAR's James May in Finland

OK, after watching these clips of what rally car driving is about, WHY isn't this racing sport more popular here in the U.S.?  My best guess is because we aren't good at it?  But sh*t if it ain't the coolest thing ever!

Hell, I pretty much love all segments but this is one of my fave Colbert segments because

he really does show me stuff that is "Craziest F#?king Thing I've Ever Heard"

Goodday,

I just want to inform you that i have packaged and deposited your ATM
MASTERCARD worth $800,000,00 USD with FedEx Delivery Services to deliver
it to you, due to i have waited enough to hear from you so that your funds
will be transfered through CENTRAL BANK OF AFRICA (BOA) here to your
personal account, but because of the late response,I now decided to
deposit the ATM MASTER CARD and placed it for delivery with the fedex
delivery services because it also eaiser and safer. Insurance and delivery
charges have been paid for, but the only fee remaining is the security
safe keeping fee of $185,00 USD which you will be required to pay before
delivery, so you are to contact them on how you are to remit the fee to
them so they can release your package and deliver it to you which will
take 2 working days to get to you. I am going out of Nigeria to IRAQ for a
period of 4 months to see my boss.

However, this was not paid for because of demurrage. Well, I did forward
them your delivery address, but a re-confirmation is important when
contacting them if you want to change your address. I advice you quote the
parcel and shipment code to them for onward delivery to your re- confirmed
address. The ATM MASTERCARD has pin number 8876. Take note, once you
receive the card you take it to any ATM cashpoint around your area and
slot it in and enter the pin code for withdrewal, the amount
you can be able to withdrew per day is $20,000.00 USD (Twenty Thousand
United State Dollars) each day.

Forward the following when contacting FedEx Delivery Services:

Full name......................
Home address............
Country....................
Telphone...............
Find FedEx Contact Information Below:

Contact Officer: Mr. Walter Williams
E-mail: info.fedexcourierdeliveryservice@yahoo.com.hk
Tel: +234 8035 602775
Shipment Code: CPEL/OWN/9856
Parcel Number: EG2272-NG

Once again, the Fedex delivery services do not know the content of the
parcel, I registered it as an African magazine they don't know it contains
ATM MASTERCARD inside, this is to avoid them delaying the delivery and
besides I don't want you to lose your inherittance funds.

Barrister Tom James

Update info: Lapidus bunionectomy - Before and after

My first post-op photo of my feet. The left foot is not only straight but the long bone in the big toe phalange was reset so it provides a solid base when I walk.
left foot - AFTER
I finally decided it was time to have surgery for my foot because I couldn't walk a few blocks without being in serious pain and having my ankles and foot swell, regardless of the shoes I was wearing. They say it is time to consider it when the quality of your life has been diminished. Well, it'd been diminishing for years and hobbling back after only a few blocks of walking around was the final straw.
left foot - BEFORE

Pre-Op X-ray
Surgery done on June 14, 2007.Left foot - bunionectomy (Lapidus procedure) and torn ankle ligament reattached. Immobile (short of bathroom breaks and moving from couch to bed) was about two weeks.Attempted to return to work during week 3, but went back home and took that week off.On crutches for several months (long enough to be allowed a temporary handicap parking tag). Physical therapy for nearly 5 months.Multiple follow-up trips to the doctor's office.A good amount of pain (reduced the first two weeks with prescribed meds and then eventually Advil). Weight gain due to inactivity (later reduced with p/t).

A big thanks to Dr. Robert Lee and my p/t guys Lider, Bobby and Joel for making it all better. And an especially hearty thank you to my beloved LP for taking such amazing care of me. (He was quite the loving trooper.)Even with all of that, I am looking forward to having my right bunion fixed as well.

[This is how straight a normal foot should be]

[How swollen my left ankle could get from traveling and walking pre-op.]

LINKS:

A real bunionectomy video (seriously -  you need to have a strong constitution to watch this)

A short Flash animation of the Lapidus procedure.

Surgery photos (view at your own risk)

A simple explanation of what the Lapidus procedure is good for.

And stated here:
http://www.footdoc.ca/www.FootDoc.ca/Website%20Bunion%20(Surgery).htm

"Procedures Proximal to the First Metatarsal
  • Lapidus Procedure  Involves the fusing of the first metatarsal bone with the midfoot (specifically, the first cuneiform bone).  The idea with this is that the deformity of the increased intermetatarsal angle is based at this joint, so fusing this joint will stabilize the bunion.  Sometimes the Lapidus is performed with additional fusions of other joints.  A particularly good procedure for very flexible individuals and for younger patients who are prone to quicker return of bunion deformities.  Drawbacks include its slow-healing nature, its need to be immobilized and non-weight bearing, and that it shortens the first metatarsal."
Dr. Baravarian - Foot and Ankle Institute (great descriptions and pictures)
He was my first consult.  And I had no doubt he is one of the best podiatric surgeons you could ask for, but I felt he saw me as a case versus a patient.  If you don't care about that, but want the best hands available, I would go see him.  I may even see him again depending on the circumstances of my right foot in the future.
But I loved Dr. Lee, so I will probably see him again.
BTW - it was Dr. Baravarian who referred me to Dr. Lee.  As he said, it was my decision to make and while he would like to do my surgery, he doesn't need to do it in terms for wanting it for himself.  But he gave me Dr. Lee's name saying if I go elsewhere, he wants me to go to someone good.  And he was right.
But never say never.

So, is the lame Blair gone yet?

Dear Gossip Girl,

Could you please restore B. back to her original goddess form of being both haughty and bitchy while having class and heart and ditch the lame "woe is me - no one knows Blair Waldorf" act that doesn't work at all?

B. finally got Chuck and they are supposed to "rule the school" so what the hell?

Thank gawd Chuck is still awesome, 'cause the show would be suffering without his Highness, for sure.

I want the reigning couple back.  Please hurry.

I await my episode from tonight until tomorrow's dawn.

xoxo

I hearted Kelly Hrudey (and still do)

(Not my actual jersey since mine is in black.)

Well, my second Frozen Fury attendance, and it is way more fun when the Kings win!

Frozen Fury XII will go down as a win for the L.A. Kings.  Thank gawd since the Avalanche fans are such douches.

However, I got a couple of random kudos from these young guys saying how cool it was that I had a Hrudey jersey.  It's funny, 'cause even in '93, I felt I always had to be on the defensive of why I loved Hrudey, but I guess now people kind of remember him and it bends to a positive light.  Who knew?

But when even an Avalanche fan (who wasn't too lame since he wasn't dumb enough to sport an Avs logo'd anything while at the LA dominated MGM) says that having a Hrudey jersey is cool, the past really can change one's perception.  Cool.

EMMYS - Yays and Boos

BOO! - Daily Show over Colbert Report!  Nooooooooooo!

YAY! - Alec Baldwin for best comedic actor!

BOO! - Jon Cryer for best supporting comedic actor - over Jack McBrayer, Tracy Morgan and Neil Patrick Harris.  Yeah, right.

YAY! - 30 Rock!

Yay but Boo - I'm glad Bryan Cranston won (long overdue for his brilliance on Malcolm in the Middle), but considering he already received one last year, it would have been nice for someone else who is just as deserving to receive it.  I'd have preferred Hugh Laurie, Michael C. Hall or Jon Hamm.

BOO! - HBO's Generation Kill got NO love.  Figures.  I'm sure not one of the voters could get past the first 10 minutes of the story and dialogue.  All the same reasons THE WIRE not got their due with an Emmy.

It just proves again that the Emmys are pointless and says nothing about quality (except when it comes to 30 Rock - heh heh).

could leno be any less original?

So, rather than watching out of interest, we tuned into Jay's "new" show to see how far it could be criticized.  Safe to say it was easy to see that he didn't try very hard at all to bother with putting any thought and effort into doing an original show with original bits and, gee, try and be funny.

He used the Cheaters host to do a weird bit about Kevin cheating on him with a Jay lookalike.  Such ego that he couldn't even tear away from the idea that Kevin might want to find someone different from Jay?  Whatever.

I don't even remember much else, other than his set involves not having a table to sit behind while interviewing guest, and yet, he has one to do his "Headlines" bit.

In all of this, I feel worse off for my poor Conan who really got the shaft through this all.  If they wanted to keep Leno that happy, they might as well have kept in on the Tonight Show and given Conan either a buttload of cash or some other venue he could flex his comedic muscles.

NBC could keep the old folks who have Nielsen boxes and love watching the unfunny Chin and let us young(er) folks embrace our Conan.  (Yes, the show could be better, but it's early yet and he still has to find a foothold that works for the Tonight Show, but I ain't giving up on him.)

But, seriously, Leno's show should be called Tonight Show 2.0 since there is nothing different beyond the stage/set.

The Chin is so annoying.  The only good thing he ever did was getting to talk with James May (Top Gear).  If I ever had to interact with the man, at least I could ask him what it was like talking to May.

OMG - this is beyond ridiculously cute

If this doesn't melt your heart into a serious sense of "awwwwwwwwwwwww," you do not have one.

In short, once the puppy is on his back, he has a hard time righting himself. And his name is CHAI.

p.s. According to my Japanese speaking aa, he says they say the puppy got back up a few seconds after the video stops.

Teri Hawaii shaved ice - RIP

Well, it was bound to happen. Teri Hawaii is now dead to me. Why?

I knew ownership* had changed during my last visit. The furnishings had a touch of the "Pinkberry" feel - those colorful plastic stool-like chairs that have that art deco pseudo futuristic look that is a far cry from the previous tables with attached chairs as seen in most McDonald's. Also gone were all the Hawaiian paraphernalia like Hawaiian music CD's, pictures, etc.

I also noticed that the prices had jumped up a bit, but considering my only requirement is for the Hawaiian shaved ice, and it had hovered around $2.00 for over a decade, I felt I could live with that. BUT, it had to taste the same. I got my favorite Banana flavor with Kreme (a watered down sweetened condensed milk flavoring) and it was heavenly. But this past visit, I knew it was over.

I ordered my same item and pulled out my two bucks with my change purse open to cover the extra Kreme flavor. However, I did a double take with an , "ex-squeeze me? Um, a baking powder?," when the girl told me it'll be $3.24.

$3.24 for one shaved ice? That was unheard of! I stepped back, after paying, to look at the board. The board said $2.00 for shaved ice. But then, it listed each flavor as $0.65 cents each. WTF was that!? It's always been a given that when ordering the shaved ice, you get ONE FLAVOR for the price of a shaved ice. They were now charging $2.00 for ice??? Not to mention, they charged me $2.20 and not just $2.00 so that means they raised their prices again?

Now, all that said, I could ALMOST live with it as long as it satisfied my need for a yummy Hawaiian shaved ice. Teri Hawaii was famous for their shaved ice because of their super secret syrup flavors. When I took a few bites of mine, I knew it was watered down (something I had feared since I noticed the change in ownership). And I knew it wasn't that there wasn't enough syrup since the ice was thoroughly soaked but there was NO FLAVOR.

Well it was, sadly, one more place off my list of Gardena Good Eats that I can erase. It breaks my heart because that is a big part of my childhood - a real treat to get one that tastes as good as when I was a little girl.

Oh well, indeed.

*New owners seem to be Korean. As I told our friend DS, I loved that his reaction was the same as mine, "OH NO!"

Why MICHAEL BAY and his movies suck so much ass
