Gardena Good Eats

These gems are almost too good to share, but I need a reminder of places I like to go to when in the area.  Plus, I'm bored and can't think of anything else to blog at this moment...

Hakata Ramen Shinsengumi
Go for the ramen, it's a made-to-order place:  you can get firm or soft noodles, medium oil or more/less, etc.  They explain it all.  Def go for the side of fried rice or the half gyoza - worth the $ since it's cheap.

Shinsengumi Yakitori
Sister store but serves yakitori instead of ramen.  It takes a LONG time to get all your orders, but it's all pretty tasty and fresh off the grill.  share your beer with the servers and they are extra friendly!

Azuma - Japanese
Huge portions - whole in the wall place - but tasty.  i like their tempura and their fishes - very old school Gardena/Japanese eating.

Otafuku - udon
Fantastic udon and soba - I think it's handmade? but even better is the tempura "cake" of seafood - I forget the name.

Rascals
Great Chinese chicken salad plus everything is tasty.

Spoonhouse
One of the best Japanese-style pasta places - the Bolognese is great, plus the free French bread you get with your food.  It's carb overload, but I love it!

Josie's - Mexican
Giant and tasty tamales!  fantastic tamales, IMHO (take out only).

Giuliano's - deli
Their Torpedo sandwiches are "classic" - simple but tasty.  Breads are really good - don't bother with their pastries/cookies.  Not very good at all.  More for taking out, though they have sidewalk tables.  We love getting sandwiches here for picnics or to eat the next day for lunch, etc..

In Manhattan Beach - Hawaiian food
Back Home in Lahaina
Not necessarily the "best" HI food, but still tasty and good sized portions.  Def go for the bacon fried rice and their fried chicken is great and I always get the Spam musubi and the Jello cheesecake.
