GI JOE - The Rise of Cobra

So, it made a good amount of money. Just goes to show you there is no accounting for taste. And hey, I went. Not proud of it but I was curious. At least this wasn't a firm no, like the absolute refusal to see Transformers 2 (brrr!).

Overall thoughts on the film?

Well, I haven't laughed that much since watching The Hangover. And it wasn't because Marlon Wayans was funny (because he wasn't).

GI JOE was full of bad acting, bad CG FX, gigantic plot holes, nonsensical actions by the characters and even the background characters. For instance - while the characters are walking through the underwater base of COBRA, men with flame throwers on low are moving the fire over the entryways. Why? NO CLUE. What did it accomplish? WHO THE F*CK KNOWS? It's like they were moving it around to smoke out cobwebs, because there is no other use for moving around a flame over an entryway. Mind you, it wasn't welding to which there was nothing to weld. And this is the smallest of the small in terms of details that were overlooked.

Don't get me started on the mayhem the JOE's created in the process of trying to stop an act of mayhem by COBRA. After the numbers of dead/injured were possibly tallied up, it might have created less damage had they allowed COBRA to release their "bomb."

Oh, and then the scene in Asia where Snake Eyes comes upon the temple where he learns martial arts. So, he's in Japan, meets up with what seems like Chinese monks, and Stormshadow speaks Korean? So so bad...

Anyhoo. The bad was close to the "almost so bad it's good" line of movies (but still doesn't surpass DREAMCATCHER) that I laughed and giggled through out. At the least, GI JOE put me in a better mood.
