THE INFORMANT!

I was not in the best of moods, but that didn't seem to keep me from enjoying the goodness that was Steven Soderbergh's film "The Informant!"  (BTW, his last name is pronounced with a long "o" like in soda.)

And while I've found Matt Damon's performances as the lead character Mark Whitacre to be a bit hit or miss, he did a great job here.

What I enjoyed most about the film is the tone that was established so quickly.  The idea of the movie seems to be a straight-forward drama about a whistle blower and his bravery to endure, but the first few lines as we see Whitacre interact with his son gives us a sense of the film's tone in a couple of sentences about a pen in a foreign language.

The set design and the clothes are so atrocious, you can only wonder about your past and think, "Was it really that ugly in the nineties?  Did I dress that horribly, too?"

The casting is great though I did find Scott Bakula's overly coiffed hair to be a bit distracting.  But Joel McHale and Tony Hale were just classic as the straight but not so straight men who have to deal with this Whitacre mess.

Considering how crappy I feel about things lately, it's nice to know a good film makes you enjoy life (even if only for so many minutes out of your lifetime).

Check it.
