Law & Order: Criminal Intent - Vincent D'Onofrio

1.1 - 9/30/01 - "One"
First episode of C.I. and it's surprising to see "Goren" as being heavier here than during episodes around season 3.
He's not large, per se, but he's a little heavier than average for even a man of his height.
I'm curious to know what he did to get thinner later on - maybe a movie role?
Katheryn Erbe looks younger here.
He still wears those gawd-awful shoes. Wondering if they are orthopedic type shoes?
The weight seems to add years too. I still heart him, even retroactively. Heh.
Looking forward to the new season starting in a couple of weeks. Wonder how he will look then.
*Guest star Jake Weber - the cute one from the Dawn of the Dead remake.

4.9 - 11/21/04 - "Inert Dwarf"
Slimmer here than season 1, but not as slim as some season 3 eps.
Has the weird longer/curlier hair.
Looking good, overall. Still the bad shoes.
*man guy is the driver from GUARDING TESS (Austin Pendelton).

  1. Maybe he is going through a mid-life crisis as he will be turning 50 in June but recent reports say he has lost considerable weight. I know I have a brother who could be his twin that will be turning 50 in July and he has put on some pounds over the years too. It is a matter of slowing down with age or having a predisposition to weight problems. My brother is 6'3" and people with height have a bit more leeway than those of us that are shorter in dispersing the weight. The bottom line is that any weight up or down still does not effect his acting ability and his character was never protrayed as a type of "ladies man" that would constitute this obsession people seem to have about extra poundage. Personally I think the extra weight fits in with his character's recent stress and trauma involving his family and is realistic when such events occur. I bet any one of us would like to go back in time and look like we did when we were younger but alas Father Time has other plans for us. I agree about the shoes though, they are the worst-looking things I have ever seen anyone put on their feet and appear to be the same ones that have gone through 8 seasons now. Since he had hurt his knee during basic training filming for "Full Metal Jacket" at an incredible weight maybe he needs "comfortable" shoes due to this injury. The shoes don't bother me quite as much as the tie bar that I would like to take and gouge my eyes out because it makes me so insane. It is never on straight and looks too old for someone his character's age. Also, I noticed in the earlier episodes that he wore a watch but doesn't anymore and I wonder what person in law enforcement doesn't wear a watch? It's easy to notice because the shirts he wears are way too short for someone with arms as long as he has. Nevertheless the acting still holds the most attention for me and I look forward to the new season...finally.

  2. Dear Anonymous,
Thanks for posting a comment. Obviously, you're a fan of D'Onofrio and of C.I. so that's cool.
I did wonder if he actually gained weight for the current "Goren" storyline or maybe for some work he was doing outside of C.I. and then thought maybe he was having a hard time losing the weight as he's gotten older. Besides the fact he's cuter slimmer, I always worry about their health and whatnot (which is valid with his exhaustion collapse a while back).
Yeah, I guess it makes sense that he'd be poorly dressed since he's a working detective who couldn't care less about his appearance (what with the too short sleeves), but I hope he'll get it together to look more presentable. I think D'Onofrio is a cutie, so I am looking forward to the new season too. Best, jla

  3. He has done other filming outside of CI in which being heavier contributed to the character ie being in the mob. I share your concern about his health basically because he's a chain smoker. In the earlier episodes it's not as if I would say he was poorly dressed because his suits were impeccably tailored, especially for a man of his height, but, it seems like the smaller details were missed like the shirt sleeves being too short, etc. Adding that gawd-awful tie bar is like putting a Monet in a plastic frame. He is a handsome man to be sure with the most beautiful eyes that portray a range of emotions through his acting. Lately they have traded the suits for a new "uniform" of jeans, suit jacket and that horrible striped shirt he wears EVERY episode. From the pictures I have seen of him outside of CI he wears that same shirt which makes me want to rip it off him and use it to wash down all of my walls for some Spring cleaning and then burn it! If you have seen the promo clips for the opening season premiere episode there's that striped shirt AGAIN. Maybe you and me can travel to New York and while I hold him down you can take the Herman Munster shoes and I'll rip that shirt off of him so we can have a bonfire to roast marshmallows over, lol.
