Man vs. Food - challenge to devour a bowl of
Oro Chon's "Special no. 2" noodles. My LP decided and also was coerced into taking on the challenge to eat a bowl down to its last drop of broth in 30 minutes or less.
Our group ordered a 2
nd bowl just to taste so as not to interfere with his challenge. I took a spoonful of the broth and found it to have an interesting kind of spiciness: it didn't linger long on the tongue, yet when it entered my empty stomach, there was an immediate reaction of gurgling and unease.

My LP managed to get to the level pictured above with about 8 minutes left. Had he started on a quicker pace early on, he might have been able to make the challenge in 30 versus his final 35 minutes, but the effort of making it wasn't worth the end effect (which would have been a picture of yourself on their wall of fame). As he said, by the end of it, it wasn't even the spices that get to you - it's that your stomach considers it poison and the sheer volume of broth pushes your stomach's ability and capacity to the end. You know it's bad when mouthfuls of jalapeno peppers (as show above) don't even phase you.
Sometimes, winning a challenge isn't worth it, even for the fun in bragging rights. And sometimes, you're body will not forgive you. For days.
I just saw this particular episode on TV last nite and even though I wasn't there I could only imagine the assault it would have had on my stomach. That guy is nuts but he's so adorable that I can't help but watch him with his challenges. Honestly, I think he's headed for a definite heart attack. He came to my city to eat some wings that were coated in a sauce that was off the charts but he succeeded. I just remember his face was burnt from the sauce and his eyes just dripping in tears. Not for me, I like to enjoy my food.
