I love what the writers are doing with his character already! Det. Zach Nichols is completely adorable with how attentive and sweet he is towards his partner, Wheeler, once he realized that she is pregnant.
Also really liked getting more background information about his father, his knowledge of psychology, and his version of authority issues (as compared to Goren's).
I find it interesting that they acknowledge how female characters around Nichols are drawn to him. I'd wondered why they didn't let female characters, possibly short of Nicole Wallace, show Goren any real interest. He was such a hottie in the early seasons (esp. around 2002-2003) and yet there weren't any real mentions of flirtations or whatnot. (Give us ladies something, people!) But I'm glad they're giving us a little with Nichols. The standout in this episode HAD to be Goldblum's jacket. What is the deal with outerwear? Is the man THAT cold? LOL.
I think it's a slight nod to his quirkiness, and having little to no body fat probably doesn't help, but wearing a jacket three times his size to accommodate his four layers below is just comical (I love it). Definitely learning to heart him more every other week!
I'm happy that L&O: CI is handling Goldblum's offbeat quirkiness by highlighting and showcasing the fun in it, versus making him seem like a freak. Kudos.
