My latest obsession continues to be all hats by
Engenia Kim. The one I had on order that came in is this woven hat with a floral applique.

This is well constructed, fits snug without being tight, and offers enough shade from the sun. I love it, but am still feeling a bit self-conscious about wearing a hat around town.

Because it's so feminine, I think the best balance would be to wear it with outfits that are more masculine, such as jeans and a fitted leather jacket, versus a pretty dress (unless I'm taking afternoon high tea or some such). (^_^)
And because all my hats have been warmer materials, like wool or cashmere/angora blends, I've picked up this thin cotton newsboy cap. I love this because the material is lightweight which is great for warmer weather, plus the hat nicely blends the line between being on the manly side yet detailed with nice touches such as a thin white leather band.

Kim also has a lower-priced line called Genie by Eugenia Kim and I got a straw cloche style. I love the look and appreciated the lower price point, but there is a noticeable difference in the quality of the construction: inner band is a thin ribbon versus the nice one with double backing and the joints from brim to crown is thick and uneven.
BUT, the style is the best I've seen - she has a great sense of balance where the crown is not so tall that it overwhelms your face.
EK hats sit close to the head yet frames the face with a soft femininity.
I also like her
"when I made it big" story in which her designs got her noticed and it got her to where she is now - a successful
milliner.
Kudos.
Don't be self-conscious, you look great ina hat and anyhow the fact that few wear them should be enough incentive...you always stand out in the BEST way, showing how stylish you are, my friend. Could you have done paris kin snow without the kick-ass cap? NO, do you need the sun-protection and whimsy in your days here? yes! and worrying about appearing too feminin? come ON! with long bouncy girly hairdo and those bohemian outfits maybe, but you always look classy put together and comfortable, not at all too fem.
